‘Yn dilyn cyhoeddiadau blaenorol, a chan fod heintiau COVID-19 yn dal i ledaenu, mae’r Prif Swyddog Deintyddol, ar ran Llywodraeth Cymru, wedi cyhoeddi canllawiau i sicrhau bod cleifion, a thimau deintyddol, yn cael eu gwarchod rhag y risg o gael eu heintio, a chydymffurfio a’r mesurau ynghylch cadw pellter cymdeithasol a chynorthwyo eraill i wneud yr un modd, er mwyn cyfrannu at leihau’r risg o drosglwyddo’r haint.

O hyn ymlaen, mae cyfraniad y gwasanaethau deintyddol yn hanfodol yn yr ymdrech genedlaethol i leihau lledaeniad COVID-19 a’i effaith ar y boblogaeth. Mae triniaethau deintyddol arferol, sydd eisoes wedi eu trefnu, wedi cael ei hatal dos dro. Mae’r holl weithdrefnau cynhyrchu Aerosol (AGP) wedi eu hatal, ac ni fydd unrhyw aelod o dimau deintyddol sy’n feichiog neu heb eu llwyr imiwneiddio yn cael darparu na chynorthwyo gyda gofal uniongyrchol i gleifion na chyflawni asesiadau.

Bydd deintyddfeydd a gwasanaethau yn dal yn agored (ar rota leol a chyda llai o staff) a gwneir popeth i flaenoriaethu, cynghori a chysuro cleifion sydd â phroblem ddeintyddol dros y ffôn. Bydd hynny’n arbed cleifion rhag gorfod teithio a dod i ddeintyddfa neu glinig, gan achosi cyn lleied ag y bo modd o gyswllt â phobl â symptomau neu rai sydd wedi eu heintio neu’n ansymptomatig. Gall deintyddion ddarparu presgripsiynau-o-bell, cyffuriau lladd poen neu wrthficrobiaid.

Dylai unrhyw driniaeth ddeintyddol gael ei gohirio ar hyn o bryd, pe bai modd gwneud hynny. Pe ba’n rhaid cynnal asesiad o rywun yn y cnawd, fel petai, byddwn yn defnyddio gweithdrefnau grymus safonol (PPE) ac ni fyddwn ond yn gweld clefion sy’n ansymptomatig. Mae’n rhaid i ni geisio gwneud cyn lleied ag y bo modd o asesiadau wyneb yn wyneb a thriniaethau deintyddol (heb fod yn rhai AGP) a hynny ddim ond i gwrdd â’r angen am driniaeth frys wirioneddol.

Bydd cleifion a gaiff eu profi, mewn ymgynghoriad dros y ffôn, i fod ag angen triniaeth frys neu argyfyngus na ellir ei gohirio ac sydd ag angen gweithdrefnau AGP, yn cael eu cyfeirio at Ganolfan ddynodedig ein Bwrdd Iechyd ar gyfer gofal deintyddol Brys ac Argyfyngus drwy system gofrestru leol ar gyfer asesu a gofal – ond dim ond os ydi hynny’n wirioneddol angenrheidiol. Ni ddylai claf fynd i bractis na chanolfan argyfwng ei hun heb i drefniant fod wedi cael ei wneud, a chytuno arno, ymlaen llaw ar gyfer asesu/triniaeth.’

Further to our previous notifications, and given the continued spread of COVID-19 infections, the our Chief Dnetal Officer, on behalf of the Welsh Government, has issued guidance to ensure that patients, and dental teams, are being protected from risk of infection, and are complying with social distancing measures and helping others to do so, to help reduce the risk of transmission.

Hence, dental services are now vital in contributing to the national effort to reduce the spread of COVID19 and its impact on the population. Routine scheduled dentistry has ceased for the time being. All Aerosol generating procedures (AGP) have ceased, and all Dental team members who are pregnant or otherwise immunosuppressed will not provide or assist in the direct care or assessment of patients.

Practices and services will remain open (via a local rota and skeleton staff) and will make every effort to triage, advise and reassure patients who have a dental problem by telephone. This avoids patients travelling and presenting at the practice or clinic, so as to minimise contact with people with symptoms or with those who are infected but asymptomatic. Dentists can offer remote prescription, analgesics and antimicrobials.

All dental treatment that can be should be delayed at present. If assessment in person is required, we will use robust standard PPE procedures, and only see patients who are asymptomatic. We must try to keep face to face assessments and (non AGP) dental treatment to a minimum and only to meet absolute urgent treatment need.

Patients identified through telephone consultation, who have an urgent or emergency need that cannot be delayed and requires AGPs, will be directed to our Health Board’s designated Emergency/Urgent Dental care centre via a local booking system for assessment and care – but only if absolutely necessary. No patient should attend the practice or urgent centre in person without a pre-agreed assessment/treatment slot.
